Offered in black, blue and red, the unit has a three-inch LCD and supports 720p HD video capture. The SX200 is scheduled to reach retailers next month at $349.99. With the introduction of the PowerShot D10, Canon is entering the toughcam market. The 12MP unit is waterproof to a depth of 33 feet, freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and shockproof. It has a 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. The D10 is expected to sell for $329.99 when it reaches retailers May. Also joining Canon's 2009 point and shoot camera lineup are four new Digtial Elphs. The SD970 IS is a 12.1MP shooter with a 5x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. Sporting a three-inch LCD, the unit has Smart Auto and blink detection. It also has two creative twists—zoom blur and creative light. Zoom blur lets you move the zoom while firing the shutter. That can create some interesting vortex effects in a shot. Creative light will turn points of light in a shot into star flares and other interesting effects. The SD970 is pegged for market arrival in April at $379.99. A smaller 4x optical zoom (28-112mm equivalent) is incorporated into the new 12.1MP SD 660 IS. The unit has optical image image stabilization and is offered in silver, black, pink and gold. Its LCD is slightly smaller than the 970's—2.8 inches—but it also supports Smart Auto and blink detection. Equipped with an HDMI socket, the snapper can shoot 720p HD video. It's slated to be available in March at $329.99. The SD780 Digital Elph is another 12.1MP bytecam that will be offered in black, red, silver and gold. It has a 3x optical zoom and optiical image stabilization. Its LCD measures 2.5 inches diagonally and it, too, supports blink detection and Smart Auto, as well as 720p HD video capture and HDMI. Look for it next month at $279.99. For the color conscious, Canon is vending the 10MP SD1200 IS, which will come in dark and light gray, blue, pink, green and orange. Smart Auto is also part of the package which will go on sale next month at $229.99. Canon is also beefing up its A Series cameras. The 12.1MP A2100 IS, which, as do all the new additions to this group, run on AA batteries, has a 6x optical zoom and optical image stabilization, supports Smart Auto and has three-inch LCD. It will be a late bloomer, coming to market in April at $249.99. The 12.1MP A1100 IS will be offered in gray, blue, green and pink. It has a 4x optical zoom, optical image stabilization and a 2.5-inch display. Look for it next month at $199.99. Rounding out Canon's 2009 point-and-shoot lineup is the economically priced 10MP A480, which is the only one of the new models that uses the old Digic III processor. Offered in red, blue, silver and black, it has a 3.3x optical zoom and 2.5-inch LCD. Consumers can expect to see the unit in March for $129.99.

It also has a good sized Fujinon zoom--5x (28-140mm equivalent, F/3.3-5.1)--and an expansive three-inch display with 230,000 pixel resolution and 100% coverage.

Light sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to a whopping 12,800, but only small resolution images (2048 x 1536 maximum) can be captured at that highest ISO setting.

Three storage card types are supported by the unit--xD, SD and SDHC--and it has 48MB of internal memory.

Other features include 640 x 480 AVI video at 30 frames per second, face detection, dual image stabilization (sensor shifting and ISO/shutter manipulation), HD quality image output, dynamic range bracketing and an intelligent flash that avoids "washout" at close ranges.

The F200EX will reach retailers this month and sell for $399.95.

In addition to the groundbreaking F200EX, Fuji also unveiled an economy snapper, the FinePix A150. The 10MP digcam has a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor and 3x Fujinon optical zoom (35.5-106.5mm equivalent, F/3.3-5.1) and three-inch, 230,000-dot LCD with 96% coverage. Light sensitivity ranges from ISO 100-1600.

The A150 has 20MB of internal memory and supports external storage on SD and SDHC cards.

Other features include 640 x 480 AVI video capture at 30fps, face detection, picture stabilization via ISO/shutter manipulation and a "baby" mode that's sure to be a hit among the parents of newborns.

The A150 will also reach retail shelves this month and its pricetag will be $129.95.]]>

It can capture up to 30 3MP frames a 13fps and also grab 3MP pictures at ISO 3200. It, too, will be available in March and is priced at $279.95.

Six additional Coolpix models will reach retailers this month. The 12MP S630 has a 7x optical zoom and 2.7-inch display, as well as a speedy sport mode for nabbing 3MP images at 11fps. It can also shoot 3MP pictures at ISO 3200 and 6400. It comes in a variety of colors--black, purple, blue, red and silver. Pricetag for the S630 is $279.95.

The 12.2MP S620 also has a 2.7-inch LCD and smaller 4x optical zoom. Its color combinations include purple, black, pink, blue and pearl.

A new touchscreen model, the 10MP Coolpix S230, was also unveiled by Nikon. It has a three-inch LCD and 3x optical zoom. Colors available will be plum, black, blue, red and silver. The S230 is expected to sell for $229.95.

Rounding the new members of the S line was the S220, a 10MP DSC with a 2.5-inch display and 3x optical zoom. It will be offered in plum, black, blue, green, silver and magenta at $149.95.

Two L model Coolpix additions were also introduced. The 10MP L20 has a three-inch LCD and 3.6 optical zoom. Its color is red and its pricetag $129.95 The 8MP L19 has a 2.7-inch display, 3.6x optical zoom, comes in silver and will sell for $109.95.

Less than two weeks after it announced a trio of new economy pocket shooters, Panasonic pulled the wraps off a sextet of high-powered ultracompacts. The new sixsome, scheduled to arrive at retailers in April, range in price from $250-$400... Lensslingers looking for a tough camera can find one in the new DMC-TS1. The 12.1MP shooter is waterproof to 10 feet, shockproof from a height of five feet and dustproof. The unit, which has 4.6x wide (28mm equivalent) optical zoom and 2.7-inch, 230,000 dot LCD, captures HD video in a new format, AVCHD Lite and sound using Dolby Digital Creator. Audio is further enhanced with "wind cut," a technology for blocking out the noise from the wind when shooting a video clip. The bytecam also has the beefed up version of iA and a Flash Burst mode for sequential shooting of flash pictures. The TS1 is also priced at $399.95.

Two new ZS models were also introduced by Panasonic. Both the DMC-ZS3 and DMC-ZS1 have 10.1MP sensors, 12x wide (25mm equivalent) optical zooms and support AVDHC Lite video capture. The Z3 has a larger LCD--three inches, 460,000 dots, compared to 2.7 inches, 230,000 dots for ZS1--and its iA set supports Face Recognition while the ZS1's doesn't. The ZS3 has a higher pricetag, too, $399.95, compared to $299.95 for the ZS1.

Another 12.1MP announced by Panasonic was the DMC-FX58, which has a 2.5-inch, 230,000-dot LCD and 5x wide (25mm equivalent) optical zoom. It also supports 1280 x 720 HD video at 30fps and has a Panorama mode, as well as iA with Face Recognition. The FX48 is priced at $349.95.

The lowest priced camera of the bunch is the DMC-FS25. The 12.1MP shooter has a three-inch LCD, 5x optical zoom, iA sans Face Recognition and 848 x 480 WVGA video capture at 30fps. The FS25 will sell for $249.95.

The DMX-CG10, which is offered only in vertical format, is targeted to reach retailers at the end of next month. It can grab 10MP stills and 1280 x 720 HD video at 30fps and 9Mbps. It has a 5x optical zoom with an equivalent range of 38-190mm for stills and 40-200mm for video.

Two waterproof hycams were also announced by Sanyo, the DMX-CA9 and its horizontal alter ego, the DMX-WH1. They can snap 9MP stills and 1280 x 720 HD video at 30fps and 9Mbps. They have 5x optical zooms. Zoom range for the CA9 is 38-190mm equivalent for both stills and video. For the WH1 it's 43-290mm for both. The products are scheduled for March release.

The TL100 is a 12.2MP pocketcam with a 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch, 230,000 pixel LCD. Light sensitivity spans ISO 80-3200 (3MP maximum at 3200) and can shoot SVGA MPEG4 video at 800 x 592 @ 20 frames per second. It has digital image stabilization, as well as face, smile and blink detection. It also has Smart Auto. With it the camera will automatically choose an appropriate scene mode for a shot. The unit is expected to make it to store shelves this spring. Samsung has not made pricing information available for the snapper.

The SL420 has specs similar to the HZ10W. It has the same size sensor (10.2MP), LCD (2.7 inches) and light sensitivity (ISO 80-3200). It has a smaller zoom (5x), but supports MPEG4/VGA video, dual image stabilization and face, smile and blink recognition. The unit is scheduled for a spring release. No pricing information was released by Samsung.

'The company also announced an economy camera model, the SL102, a 10.2MP shooter with a 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch LCD, ISO spectrum of 80-1600 and MPEG/VGA video. Digital image stabilization and face detection are also supported by the unit. A spring arrival is predicted for the camera. No pricing information has been released.
