Geo-tagging to be demo'd by DeLorme
Members of the Fourth Estate hanging around Las Vegas this week end, might want to take in the demo by Yarmouth, Maine-based DeLorme of the photo geo-tagging feature it has built into the latest version of its its topo mapping software. Geo-tagging--using a GPS device to attach location information to an image--is a natural for mobile phones because many of them already have GPS built into them. For digital cameras, though, GPS is still a novelty that's yet to make the mainstream, even though a GPS-enabled camera was introduced by Ricoh two years ago and last summer Sony introduced a gadget to attach location information to images captured with its models. A similar device was announced today by Pharos. DeLorme will be showcasing its product Sunday evening at Pepcom's Digital Experience event, a sort of prelude to the electronic fireworks that start on Monday when the International Computer Electronics Show (CES) opens.
