Deluge of DSCs from Olympus
With the world's largest international photo imaging convention and trade show just nine days away, Olympus has decided to get a jump on the hoopla by announcing nine new digital still cameras today. Leading the nonet is a new version of the company's monster zoom offering. This latest edition, the SP-570 Ultra Zoom ($499.99), has a 20x optical zoom, the equivalent of a 26-520mm lens in the world of 35mm photography. Olympus has boosted the size of the unit's LCD, too, to 2.7 inches from 2.5 and increased its viewing angle to 176 degrees. Sequential shooting capabilities have also been turbo charged with the camera now able to shoot 13.5 three-megapixel images per second.
Olympus has also beefed up its Stylus and FE lines.
- Mechanical and digital image stabilization (1010 and 1020).
- 2-7-inch HyperCrystal LCD.
- Color variety (silver, black, purple, blue and pink).
- Shadow adjustment technology for smoothing out scenes with high contrast differentials outdoors.
- Perfect Shot Preview for viewing photographic effects before taking a shot.
- In-camera editing.
- In-camera panorama.
- Face detection technology.
For the shoot-on-the-run crowd, Olympus introduced four new models in its economy FE line. They were the
- FE-310 ($149.99), which has a 5x optical zoom.
- FE-320 ($179.99), a svelte number that's only .65 inches thick.
- FE340 ($199.99), the colorful one of the group with bodies in silver, red, blue, black and pink.
- FE350 ($249.99), which sports a 4x wide-angle zoom and three-inch LCD.

The Stylus 1030 SW does not have mechanical image stabilization, see the specs at Olympus' homepage. As far as I know, up to now none of the Stylus SW cameras has mechanical image stabilization. Maybe they do not want to have any unnecessary moving parts inside to make it shockprove?

Thanks for your comment.
According to Olympus, the Stylus 1010 and 1020 do have mechanical Sensor-Shift Image Stablization. The technology helps keep pictures sharp by adjusting the camera's CCD image sensor to compensate for camera movement.
